چکیده

The discovery of graphene and its fascinating capabilities have triggered an unprecedented interest in inorganic two-dimensional (2D) materials. Van der Waals (vdW) layered materials as graphene, hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), the more recently re-discovered black phosphorus (BP) indeed display exceptional technological potential for engineering nano-electronic nano-photonic devices components by design, offering a unique platform developing new with variety ad-hoc properties. In this perspective article, we provide vision on key transformative applications 2D nanomaterials developments nanoelectronic, nanophotonic, optical plasmonic devices, at terahertz frequencies, highlighting how rich physical phenomena enabled their band-structure can allow those to boost vibrant field quantum science technologies.

Tailoring Artificial Dielectric Materials at Terahertz Frequencies

The Submillimeter Technology Laboratory(STL) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell has developed a methodology of tailoring the complex refractive index for artificial dielectrics at terahertz frequencies. A wide range of precisely controlled optical properties have been achieved for materials such as vinyl acetate, silicone, polyethylene and epoxy resin when combined with powdered loading ...

Multifunctional materials for electronics and photonics

The bottom–up approach is considered a potential alternative for low cost manufacturing of nanostructured materials [1]. It is based on the concept of self–assembly of nanostructures on a substrate, and is emerging as an alternative paradigm for traditional top down fabrication used in the semiconductor industry. We demonstrate various strategies to control nanostructure assembly (both organic ...

Two-dimensional crystals-based heterostructures: materials with tailored properties

Graphene is just one example of a large class of two-dimensional crystals. These crystals can either be extracted from layered three-dimensional materials or grown artificially by several different methods. Furthermore, they present physical properties that are unique because of the low dimensionality and their special crystal structure. They have potential for semiconducting behavior, magnetis...

Two-dimensional materials and their prospects in transistor electronics.

During the past decade, two-dimensional materials have attracted incredible interest from the electronic device community. The first two-dimensional material studied in detail was graphene and, since 2007, it has intensively been explored as a material for electronic devices, in particular, transistors. While graphene transistors are still on the agenda, researchers have extended their work to ...

Cavity-enhanced optical Hall effect in two-dimensional free charge carrier gases detected at terahertz frequencies.

The effect of a tunable, externally coupled Fabry-Perot cavity to resonantly enhance the optical Hall effect signatures at terahertz frequencies produced by a traditional Drude-like two-dimensional electron gas is shown and discussed in this Letter. As a result, the detection of optical Hall effect signatures at conveniently obtainable magnetic fields, for example, by neodymium permanent magnet...
